Red Footed Tortiose Diet
Red fo0ted tortoises are omnivours and a red footed tortoises diet consists of several categories: Veggies,Fruit,Prepared diets and insects, so lets talk about these categories. Insects like earth worms,crickets and meal worms shouldn't be fed often I would say once every two weeks. Red footed tortoises diet isn't like a leopard geckos where they can eat insects all day long so im going to discuss with you what they can eat all day long... Veggies! Veggies are the red footed tortoises main diet and should be fed to them every day with a calcium supplement (found at petstores) twice weekly. the veggies your tortoise will really enjoy are: Kale,collard,mustard,dandilion,escarole, zucchini, cauliflower,brocoli,squash,and shredded carrots. these veggies take 80% of a tortoises diet! fruits are a little different. apples,bannanas,melon and red berries should only be offered twice weekly and take 15% of a tortoises diet. make sure to only give them the amount of friut they can eat in four hours. prepared diets are important in your tortoises diet to make sure they get plenty of nutrients . these special diets can only be found in petstores or online and should be offered daily in addition to the veggies and fruit, prepared diet shares the 80% of a tortoises diet with veggies. now lets talk about water. tortoises may drink from a shallow dish and will soak in the dish as well tortoises can even get moisture from the veggies it eats but should never be its main water source. replace the water daily make it shallow enough for soaking.
